Chipstead's under-18s clinched a dramatic last-minute win at Carshalton in their latest Samba Youth League Central Division match on Monday night
After a cagey start, perhaps because the home side feared the counter-attacking Chipstead side playing down the slope in the first half, which had scored 10 in their last game, but Chips began to exert pressure, with Khalid Babikir shooting over the bar, & Ousman Njie forcing the keeper to save
Finn Hartley had to be on his toes with a vital save at the other end to keep it scoreless, while Ben Marus nearly got on the end of an Njie corner to net for Chips
But the first goal did come on 20 minutes, as Babikir swept home from the edge of the area to give the visitors a 1-0 lead
Njie then hit a post, as Chipstead sought a second, but it was to become a frustrating night, as the ball just wouldn't go in, like it had last time, & the score remained 1-0 at halftime
Jayden Morri-Obry came on as sub for the injured Babikir for the 2nd half, & he was soon denied by the home keeper
But Chips were pegged back on the hour mark, when the Carshalton no. 8 shot low past Hartley to give them an equaliser
Njie shot just over, as Chipstead responded positively, & Archie Morgan had a shot charged down, but it took a brave block from Nathaniel Kenlock at the back to stop the hosts taking the lead - indeed Hartley had to save a couple of times & Marus made a timely intervention to avert further home danger
It seemed that Chips would have to settle for a point at most, but they forced a late corner - Hartley was allowed to go upfield for it, & perhaps he caused a major distraction, because Kenlock was allowed to rise & head home the winning goal to send his team-mates into delirium
Unfortunately the young man took off his shirt in the celebrations, &, having already been booked, he received a 2nd yellow card, & consequently a red one, which dampened the elation briefly, but the final whistle soon followed, prompting further joy & souvenir squad photos in the goalmouth, as Chipstead grabbed the 3 points, which sees them rise to 5th in the league table ahead of next Monday's home game with Leatherhead, although this may be superceded by the cup game at Sutton Common Rovers Combined Counties team or Croydon FC u-18s, who play tomorrow (Wednesday 5th)
