Chipstead’s under-18s endured another tough night on the road, as they travelled to Woking, & lost 6-1 to the side sitting second in the Isthmian Youth League Central Division on Thursday night
Woking, who hadn’t dropped a point in their six home games so far, were always going to be an awkward proposition, but Chips set up with two banks of five players to try to congest the home side’s passage forward
Alas, this only frustrated the home side for 10 minutes, until their centre-forward put them ahead
Chipstead’s young goalkeeper, Finnley Davenport, knew he was in for a busy night, but acquitted himself well. With a bit more luck, the scoreline might not have looked so bad. He made a good save to prevent a Woking second, before a header from the home side rattled his crossbar
On 18 minutes though, the Woking no. 10 did make it 2-0, but Davenport was soon down smartly to his right to prevent a third, then raced out of his area to stifle another attack
Unfortunately he couldn’t prevent the third goal on 38 minutes, being at full stretch to save the first shot well, but the centre-forward turned in the rebound, & 3-0 was the halftime score
Chipstead knew they had to attack more in the second half, and Farid Salifou & Naquarm Clarke-Douglas came on as subs, nearly combining for a perfect start, as Clarke-Douglas unselfishly squared to Salifou, who fired over
On 50 minutes it was 4-0 however, & 5 minutes later it was 5-0, in spite of Davenport’s brave save again, but the ball fell to the no. 10, who scored from the rebound
Clarke-Douglas made another break forward for Chipstead, but shot straight at the keeper, yet, moments later, he atoned well, as he swept the ball home to make it 5-1
Woking were soon awarded a harsh penalty, but Davenport got down to his left to push the spot-kick wide
The home side did manage a sixth goal, as their centre-forward completed his hat-trick, but credit must go to the Chips youngsters, who kept pushing forward. Salifou made a great run down the left, & it was Daniel N’Guessan, who had made strides upfield to get on the end of the cross & cause the Woking keeper to push his shot onto a post
Clarke-Douglas had another shot deflected for a corner, while Aaron Joseph went close from another Kobi Asante flag-kick just before the end
Yet it was Woking who completed the 6-1 win, leaving Chipstead 9th in the league table, ahead of their next game at home to Carshalton Athletic, who lay 10th, on Wednesday night
