Chipstead unfortunately slipped to another late defeat, as they lost 2-1 to Camberley Town in their latest match in the Cherry Red Records Combined Counties League Premier Division South on Tuesday night
Camberley went close early on, as Chips’ keeper Klevis Muca had to come out of his goal to deal with a long ball forward, but the ricochet fell to a visiting forward, who lifted the ball goalwards, but thankfully skipper Evan Kelly was back to head off the goalline
But Chipstead had their chances too - Enrique Tiamuna got to the byline inside-right, but his low cross just eluded Michael Dixon - Reanu Grossett, on a positive run forward, teed up Elijah Hopwood, who shot over the target, & then Hopwood got away inside-left, but Dixon headed his cross over the bar
Camberley took the lead on 27 minutes, as a swirling free-kick into their box wasn’t cleared by the Chips’ defence, & it fell to their no. 9 who turned it past Muca for 1-0
The home side sought an equaliser, & Grossett played in Ben Jordan, who rattled the crossbar with a shot - their task should have been made easier, when the Camberley scorer saw red for a poor challenge on Tijani Eshilokun, but they still trailed at the break
Grossett continued to dominate play upon the resumption, firing in a shot from the right, which the keeper saved at the near post, & then threading the ball from the byline through the visitors’ defence, but no one was on hand to tap home - Hopwood also broke forward on the left, but he passed to Dixon, who shot just wide
Chipstead did score a deserved equaliser just past the hour mark, as great play between Grossett & Dixon found Tiamuna at the far post, who touched the ball home
The game was soon 10-a-side, as the limping Eshilokun was sent off for a second yellow card, & both sides sought the lead again, although Hopwood saw his free-kick comfortably held by the visiting keeper
Camberley were awarded a penalty 15 minutes from time - Muca saw the ball bounce horribly, as he went to clear a backpass, & he was deemed to have brought down the striker whilst recovering, injuring himself in the process, but he got up to save superbly to his left, & it remained 1-1
Grossett had a shot saved, & Jordan’s was tipped over, as the clock ran down, but Camberley nicked all three points in added time, as a free-kick given by the corner flag was taken by their left-back, whose delivery had been dangerous all night, & it crept in at the near post, giving Chips no time to respond
The defeat leaves them 17th in the league table ahead of Saturday’s home game with Fleet Town
